Summary
Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, (FMEA), is an analytical method to ensure potential problems have been considered, assessed for risk and actioned as part of both product and process design. It provides a record of an organisations collective knowledge about products and processes. It is widely used in many industrial sectors such as automotive, aerospace, renewable energy and mobile power generation.

Description
FMEA is module two of the Core Tools Certification. This module can be completed as a standalone course or part of the full Core Tools Certification Training. The full Core Tools Certification is achieved by completing all 5 modules of Core Tools Certification Training (APQP, Control Plan, FMEA, SPC, MSA and PPAP) and upon successful completion of the exam. Modules can either be taken as consecutive days (which can be booked here) or individually.
More information about the contents of each module and Industry Forum’s upcoming module dates can be found here:
Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Control Plan Training
Statistical Process Control (SPC) Training
Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA) Training
Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) Training
Please note: This training is based on the AIAG 4th edition which remains current and applicable to industry; we will include some references to the new AIAG/VDA approach to outline the main differences. Delegates will need to attend either the AIAG/VDA Combined FMEA Awareness Training or AIAG & VDA Process FMEA: Transitioning for Practitioners course to fully understand the differences in approach.
Who should attend?
This course is designed for Management Representatives, Implementation Teams, Internal Auditors and others who are involved in the implementation or auditing of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis.
Course Outline
- Overview of the FMEA process
- General review of FMEA principles
- Design FMEA including start points
- Process FMEA including start points
- FMEA ranking tables and scoring
Benefits and Learning Objectives
FMEA is used to support the introduction of new products and processes as well as supporting changes to existing products and processes.
It is often mandated by automotive, aerospace and other engineering primary manufacturers as a specific requirement to support the goal of defect prevention and the reduction of variation and waste.
Companies that apply FMEA successfully, see improved product conformity, better on time delivery performance and a reduction in the cost of non-quality.
Delegates will become competent in creating and analysing design and process FMEA's and develop an understanding of the methods to implement Failure Mode and Effects Analysis within their organisation.
Certification
Upon completion of the course you will receive an Industry Forum certificate of attendance.
